Southside Sudo is more than just a name. It's a symbol of resilience, strength, and empowerment for South Sudanese people everywhere. Founded by Wol Maiwen, this brand was born out of a personal journey marked by profound experiences.
Wol Maiwen's life began amidst the brutal civil war in South Sudan. Seeking refuge, Wol and his family fled to Egypt before eventually settling in the state of Maine, USA. Their choice of this particular location was driven by its tranquility. After enduring so much, Wol's parents longed for peace, and they believed that New England offered the serenity they craved. In a predominantly white state, Wol faced adversity and discrimination, but he persevered, embracing his South Sudanese heritage and developing a deep pride in his identity.
Southside Sudo embodies this mission. Through its clothing and the messages it conveys, the brand inspires confidence, resilience, and cultural pride. The goal is to empower all South Sudanese individuals, encouraging them to hold their heads high, love themselves fiercely, and embrace their unique identity.
Wol's motivation is fueled by his five younger siblings, including a seven-year-old baby sister. Together, they aim to create a lasting impact, redefining what it means to be South Sudanese and showcasing the beauty and strength within their community.
